History of Hunza
Hunza was an independent princely state for over 900 years, ruled by the Mirs from the dramatic cliffside fortresses of Baltit and Altit. Sitting astride the ancient Silk Road, it was a vital trading and cultural bridge between Central Asia, China and the subcontinent. It acceded to Pakistan in 1974 and is now famed for its near-mythic longevity, terraced apricot orchards and sweeping views of Rakaposhi and Ultar Sar.
