History of Peshawar

One of South Asia's oldest continuously inhabited cities, Peshawar (ancient Purushapura) was the capital of the Kushan empire under Kanishka and a great Gandharan-Buddhist centre. Over centuries it was ruled by Mughals, Sikhs and the British, and its old city, Qissa Khwani Bazaar and the Khyber Pass have witnessed traders, pilgrims and armies for two millennia.
