History of Quetta
Quetta ā the 'Fort' ā sits in a high mountain valley at the crossroads of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran. Long a Pashtun and Baloch trading stop on the Bolan Pass, it became a strategic British garrison town in the late 19th century. A devastating 1935 earthquake reshaped the city; today it is the rugged capital of Balochistan, known for its apple orchards, dry fruit and cool climate.
