History of Skardu
Skardu, capital of Baltistan, was once the seat of the Maqpon dynasty and a key stop on the silk and salt routes between Ladakh, Kashmir and Central Asia. Surrounded by 8,000-metre peaks of the Karakoram, it is today the gateway to K2, Concordia and the world's highest concentration of giant mountains.
